Stolen goods or not, nevermind that - but $300 per kit?

Why not just buy a white case?

    lol yup,

    white case is what?...$10-$20 ?

and you can replace it in a second.

anything over 40$ is a joke for a few pieces of plastic.

Yeah but it's still €99 or $99 in the States!!
    AND GMail is still free!

Read kainjow's post (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=2986197&postcount=15); you get more than just an email address for $99.

    zimbra, pop/imap

Yes, it also supports other standards.

what a joke. firewall guys, we want email on our phones. we need to open the firewall on a few more ports

exchange is database based which makes it easier and cheaper to manage it

    That makes little sense whatsoever.

the base product is free but once you start buying add ons like archiving it's a lot more expensive than exchange. and other features that require MS outlook, contacts sync and iphone/mobile are not free. major fail and will cost just as much if not more than MS exchange once you compare apple's to apples

VMWare don't sell addons or a base product. They have an OSE edition to meet the GPL requirements and paid versions. Zimlets are created by the community.

Even with the full VMWAre Appliance or Collaboration edition its still cheaper than exchange.

I remember Spock from Star Trek basically made a comment about TV like that. I believe the episode was called "Bread and Circuses". Spock didn't say Scary but since he is half human he probably thought that.

There was a quote in Star Trek NG that said something along the lines of "TV was a fad in the 20th and early 21th century"!!

Im looking forward to the future of iOS.

If its good enough, I might even unjailbreak, still running 4.2.1 here, Ill miss it though, infinifolder, custom lockscreen, custom sounds.

Hopefully an iOS 5 Jailbreak will release soon after.

    you realise you contradicted yourself?

"I hope iOS 5 is good enough that ill unjailbreak"

"I hope once iOS 5 is out there is a jailbreak soon after"

    lols?

Why don't they just use existing standards? RTSP, H.264/MPEG4 video and bonjour. There. No licensing required.

    But no.

Apple pulls the "standards compliant" flag out of their asses only when it suits them. Boo.

Im not so sure they are switching. hard to say. maybe foxconn will make 1 model, maybe they will share manufacturing responsibility with another manufacturer.

my bet is they have several different manufacturers. with macbook split up between 2-3 builders. and just 1 making MBP.

G4 is actually one of three channels I watch. Get back FOX and add NBC and I'll be interested. Until then, how's Hulu Plus doing? Why hasn't anyone mentioned it yet?

Pretty much everything was made in Japan or China.

I would be astonished to find it on a faster machine like the 17" iMac. Point No. 2: Don't take anybody's word for it. Drive down to your nearest Apple retailer. Look at the machines yourself. That should end all arguments.

I have a recent ibook running jaguar - it has had a clean install (twice) and, quite frankly, its annoyingly slow. This is a current mac, running its current os, and its hardly acceptable - running illustrator? expect the beach ball, the same with large word documents. And I still see the beachball with annoying frequency in the finder. I don't care that this isnt the top of the range 3,000 quid machine - it is stupid to only expect acceptable performance in Word on the top of the line machine. No, don't take my word for it, go have a look at a fully loaded i-book

Again, have your actually seen this "choppiness" on that $2000 machine with the brand new OS? Now for the issue of MHz, browse the web sites of the expensive UNIX workstations and servers. Look at the clock speeds of the offerings from IBM, HP, SGI, and Sun. For the most part, you will see that their machines have clock speeds in the sub-GHz range. Yet these are the machines of choice when price is no object and the job must get done. Just think about this: these boards are filled with laments that effectively tell you that you need substaintially higher clock speeds to run a computer game than you need to simulate the gas flow in a jet engine. Don't you think that something is just a bit warped here?

these machines are 64-bit, with floating point performance that widdles all over apples current offerings. The reason they are used is for this feature alone - and yepI would rather run my simulations on a sparc box than a pc, although the cost of a cheap linux box is pushing us down that route. At some point there is a balance between cost and performance. Yes it is odd that I need the fastest box around to run ut2k3 acceptably, and i agree there is something wrong with the way the market is being driven, but I suppose if thats what customers want (and are prepared to pay for), this is what they'll get....

Think. Think. Think. Apple does not "appear" to be purposesly crippling its systems. The entirity of the corporation orbits about the Macintosh. No company would purposely cripple its central product. The fact that Apple is only one of two profitable personal computer manufacturers serve as loud testimony to the contrary. Just because a bunch of idle college students post things on the Internet does not make them so.

never intentionally 'crippled' a machine? what about teh video card on teh ibook?

    Just asking the experts ...

Is it possible Apple could release the final version with the option to initialize a drive with ZFS prior to install? Everything I have read about ZFS seems to point to it as a next logical step for Apple's OS.

I'd guess about 40% chance of that (which is actually pretty good; the odds that they'll release a final version with the option to initialize a drive with NTFS are around 0%). I'd like to see it - I have seen the future, and it's ZFS.

Yeah, cuz that never happens. ;)

Actually, I just wanted to point out to everyone that the G4 uses a 167 MHz FSB, and the new G3 is CAPABLE of a 200 MHz FSB. The P4s use a Quad pumped 133 FSB (533 effective, kinda). The "old" one used a Quad 100 (400 effective). Now the Celeron uses the 400. But they are HOT, and take A LOT of energy to run.

The AMDs used a 100 MHz DDR FSB for the old Athlons and the Durons (200 kinda, because it's rising and falling), and DDR 133 for the "newer" Athlons (which they call 266). No CPU yet uses a 333 FSB, DDR or otherwise. AMD will soon, but it's Vaporware for now. And if DDRSDRAM only adds about a 5-20% increase over SDRAM, even when used properly, do the math.

Do you really think they're getting the full 533 or 266?

Just thought I'd clear that up.

I would go off about MHz myths and pipeline stages and other boring things that are often misunderstood, but I'm tired. And I'd rather not put myself to sleep. I just hope Apple can win oer the newbies with something cheap and easy, and keep the professionals with something fast enough to at least keep paces in some stuff with a similarly configured WinTel.

OS X is great, but if I can render something in 1/3 the time for 1/3 the price, what do you think I'm gonna choose?

Very skillful in how Jobs face and legs are hidden. Im beginning to think the newspapers are right about his condition.

Also, pretty tasteless to dress the way he does. I'm not a fan of Obama, but if I were to meet him and sit next to him for dinner, I would respect the office enough not no dress in freakin' turtle neck.

I would love some sort of flip/clamshell design. I've always hated the single flat slate phone design. I want a phone first not a PDA.

Ya know, maybe the iPhone just isn't for you.

    Let's see...

Most successful desktop operating system: Microsoft Windows.
Most successful server operating system: Microsoft Windows Server.
Most successful office suite: Microsoft Office.

Yes, having been given a monopoly over the IBM compatible PC platform by IBM themselves is quite a measure of how great Microsoft is.

Their success is based on IBM's failure to realise how important that market would become. They have not built their success off of making good products.

And Microsoft Windows Server ? really ? Is it successful because I have to install 30 of those to run a simple SSO db like AD whereas I can run eDirectory off of 3 Sun boxes and achieve the same results with about 100 times more objects in the directory ?

But this story is about a guy who manages data center, not about Microsoft's rise to power and their illegal moves to remain at the top for years. And their data center seems to have been top notch, since you rarely hear of Windows update not working or Microsoft.com being down, or MSN messenger not responding or Hotmail.com being on the fritz.

What I meant was for $1899 you get a very fast well built Mac that with the new Os will allow you go right to work, with a DVD burner, a software you can do REAL work with! Oh Yeah and the new Macs With X.2 are now truly twice a fast, at least in my tests with real work. Point me to ANY PC with included great software, a DVD burner, and awesome case, gig ethernet, an included firewire setup that works with drives and cameras for even $1699! I'm not talking a custom built pccee with a cheapo box, thats not the same thing. If you think it is then you haven't been doing real work, you're surfing the net and playing games something that the Imac or emac excells at for less money, peace

So, I have a 2007 MacBook, it's really old, and it's in horrible condition (been dropped too many times).

I want to sell it to get my parents an iPad.

My dad is the only one who really uses my old macbook, and just uses it for Skype, which is a free app for the iPad.

Here are my specs, and I will provide pictures also:

    Mac OS X version 10.4.11
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Capacity: 80 GB

When using the computer, it does make some sound, like something is spinning fast below the number keys on the keyboard, I think it's the hard drive, not sure.

Also, it's battery is practically dead or dying. It has to be plugged in for you to actually use it, if it's not plugged into an outlet, the most it will last before the battery dies is under 2 hours.

So, how much can I sell this for?

Do you not have Road Tax on your cars?

To use a car in the UK, (unless it's a classic car made before 1972 I think), you have to keep it taxed. It's 105/6 months for my car, which has a 2litre engine.
